I have been a practicing nonfiction writer and journalist since 1999, though am on hiatus from journalistic publications as I complete my dissertation in 2021. I have authored over 1500 investigative features, interview profiles, personal essays, film and arts reviews and editorials published in Canadian and international media outlets including The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, Vice, The Vancouver Sun, The Montreal Gazette, The Georgia Straight, enRoute, Maisonneuve, The Toronto Star, National Geographic Traveler, Saturday Night Magazine, among many others. My work has won awards and grants including a National Magazine Award for social journalism, the Canada Council for the Arts’ Grant for Professional Writers, and I have been a Fellow of the Banff Centre’s Literary Journalism program.
